Basic Essay Structure

Basic Essay Structure First, know that â€" like any other academic piece of writing â€" a reflection requires a narrow focus and strong analysis. The best approach for identifying a focus and for reflective analysis is interrogation. The following offers suggestions for your line of inquiry when developing a reflective response. This will also make it easier to cite your sources when writing your final essay. If you've been assigned an argumentative essay, check out these Top 10 Argumentative Essay Topics. The essay is a commonly assigned form of writing that every student will encounter while in academia. This means you want to essentially draw the skeleton of your paper. Writing an outline can help to ensure your paper is logical, well organized and flows properly. Keep your research organized so it will be easy for you to refer back to. For reflective responses, identify the main arguments or important elements of the text to develop a stronger analysis which integrates relevant ideas from course materials. It can be difficult to know where to begin when writing a critical reflection. So my advice is always to try to keeping quiet, listen only, and let other people to do the talking for a change. You’ll be surprised how much this will improve your writing skills (and how many people will think you’re a really sage person, when all you’re basically doing is spying on them). Everyone will try to talk you out of choosing a job with so little security, so it is better just to keep it to yourself, and prove them all wrong later. Some authors make an outline plotting out what will happen in each chapter, before they sit down to write the book. If you write 750 words or more, you get 2 points. If you write two, three or more days in a row, you get even more points. It's fun to try to stay on streaks and the points are a way to play around with that. You can also see how others are doing points-wise if you're at all competitive that way. How I see it, points can motivate early on, and eventually the joy of writing will kick in and you'll be writing without any external motivation at all. Over time, I've found that it's also very helpful as a tool to get thoughts going that have become stuck, or to help get to the bottom of a rotten mood. Worse, all three of these answers reveal a lack of understanding of the marketplace in which writers are trying to sell storiesâ€"the same marketplace where we agents are selling stories. It's important to cite your sources with accuracy and clarity. Follow these guidelines on how to use quotes in essays and speeches. As you move through the essay, transition words will be paramount. Therefore, it is wise for the student to become capable and comfortable with this type of writing early on in her training. In order to write believable dialogue, you need to listen to the conversations of the people around youâ€"then try to imitate them! Transition words are the glue that connects every paragraph together and prevents the essay from sounding disjointed. Ensure you have transitions between paragraphs so the reader understands how the paper flows from one idea to the next. If you've been tasked with an argumentative essay, here's the best formula for an Argumentative Essay Outline. The next step is to outline what you are going to write about. You should maintain a formal tone, but it is acceptable to write in the first person and to use personal pronouns. As with all written assignments or reports, it is important to have a clear focus for your writing. You do not need to discuss every experience or element of your placement. Pick a few that you can explore within the context of your learning.

Native American Literature - Free Essay Example

People may hate you for being different and not living by society’s standards, but deep down, they wish they had the courage to do the same (Don).† The Native American people leave a legacy on the earth, by showing us how to think about others, and the future of the world. We can see the footprints of their actions by a healthier plants, animals, and not giving up on the imagination of storytelling. All Native Americans see that the land and animals must be cherished and handled with respect. â€Å"We believe that the animal people are our brothers and they honor us as such, for each of these brothers gives us something special which he alone possesses. We honor him for this and give his spirit the thanksgiving which is carried on the wind to the ears of the Gitchi Manito. (Broker, 56)† Here we can see the tribe of the Ojibway treating the animals as people and thanking them for the extraordinary talents they give to them and the world. After the animal people have blessed the Native Americans with their talents, they give thanks and show their appreciation. In The Sky Tree when Aataentsci tells her husband, â€Å"when I cut the tree it split in half and then fell through a great hole. Without the tree, there can be no life. I must follow it (Bruchac, 51).† She sees the trees life and afterlife and knows that life is in the tree, so she has to see where it goes, ev en if it means compromising her life. Turtle then saves her with the help of other animals and Aataentsci forever regrets cutting down the tree. Native American people also believe that they need to preserve their culture for future generations. When Ignatia Broker described how the babies get their names, it differed from a ‘normal’ American child. When Oona’s name was being chosen, â€Å"according to custom of the people, came the time when the naming must be planned. The spirit of every person must be honored with a name, song, and an animal (14).† Most American names are random or a family name, not usually meaning much. Well, the Native Americans think a name must be honored with something from the planet, whether it’s a family name, a tribe song, or an animal. In addition to a naming process, the Ojibway people think every tribe child must be trained to do good for this world. â€Å"Oona was only five years old but she was already trained in many of the ways of a good OjibwayShe went to her grandparents and stood before them with eyes cast down, knowing she could not speak the many que stions she wishes to ask, for they who are wise must speak first (Broker, 22).† When we were five, we barely knew right from wrong and how to correct it, but the Ojibway kids have learned more respect than many seventeen year old kids now. They find that being respectful to elders will turn into respect for all life on earth. Lastly, the Ojibway tribe believed in keeping history and stories oral and spoken, rather than written and forgotten. Many years before Europeans came to America, â€Å"each nation had its own tradition of oral literature-stories that were passed down from one generation to the next as they were told and retold in the privacy of households and I tribal ceremonies (Glencoe 46).† Native Americans told myths, fables, and legends to pass down how the earth was made and that animals can be saviors. How the World Was Made, is basically an oral story written down. When your reading this short story you can just invision and old man telling this story around the fire to his 10 grandkids. â€Å"When the world grows old and worn out, the people will die and the cords will break and let the earth sink down into the ocean, and all will be water again. The Indians are afraid of this (Mooney, 48).† The beginning of this story is dark and mythological to teach the kids to love the ear th and never stop sharing stories. Native American literature is important to read because we get to see how other cultures lived. We can see that Native Americans seem more respectful to the nuna (land), because they are so adamant about keeping what is living alive, and preserving the dead. The Ojibway tribe also believes that keeping their heritage is important, and not to give up their past but to grow from it and blend with modern people. â€Å"Everything on the earth has a purpose, every disease an herb to cure it, and every person a mission. This is the Indian theory of existence (Dove).

Cause and effect of Baby Dumping Article Example For Students

Cause and effect of Baby Dumping Article In our society today, people of every age have problems that they need to deal with. Some problem for one age may differ from the problem of another age, or they may be just the same. High school students especially are facing so many problems. The five biggest problems that high school students facing these days are, illegal racing, using drugs and alcohol abuse, having free sex, abortion and dumping baby. The problems usually follow the flow, first is illegal racing, commonly it being held at night, and of course it gives troubles to other road users. Apart from that, it also can be deadly for that person. After having a race, usually they will headed to the night club. This is the place where they start to take drugs and become addicted to alcohol. When they are under the influence of drugs and alcohol, it will lead them to have an unprotected sex, which means having sex without taking any prevention for pregnancy. High school students are too immature to fully understand the effects of free sex could have on their lives. So there is no doubt that another problem will be created because of that. For sure the problem is abortion and baby dumping. Panic of being pregnant unexpectedly, they take a risk to abort the baby before their family aware of the physical changes later on. Abortion is a risky action which can be fatal to the mother. But being in desperate situation like this, they cannot think rationally anymore. But not all of them are having enough gut to take the risk for abortion. Some of them decided to give birth to the baby, but then at the end of it, because of some reasons, they dump the baby without hesitate. Dump the baby means that they throw away the babies at any places without taking care of it later. Usually the babies were dump just after they were born. In most of the cases, the babies were already dead when they were found by someone else. The trend of dumping a baby is quite the same for most of the cases. Usually for most of the cases, the baby was covered with clothes and plastic bag and being left in the bushes, near the rubbish dump or in front of the mosque. The worst case is when the baby was throw in a river or being burn. This case does exist in our country, but only a few cases recorded until now. One of the common trend of baby dumping case this year can be read through The News Strait Times, April 11, The Malaysian National News Agency reported as follows, Kuala Lumpur, The body of a baby boy, with the umbilical cord still intact, was found at a garbage dump in Sungai Choh, Hulu Selangor. Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Norel Azmi Yahya Affandi, when contacted, said the body was found by Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) workers who were collecting garbage in the area about 8am. The district council workers were lifting the pile of rubbish into the garbage truck when a plastic bag with a newspaper package inside slipped and fell. One of the workers bent down to pick it up and was shocked to see a babys leg protruding from the newspaper package, he added. He said the worker lodged a police report and the body was sent to the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for a post-mortem. Police did not rule out th e possibility of the baby, which was believed to have died during delivery, was placed at the garbage dump site late last night. From this news, we must be aware that baby dumping is the most serious case nowadays. .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 , .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .postImageUrl , .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 , .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:hover , .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:visited , .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:active { border:0!important; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:active , .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483 .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u794d65f876c616bad5466644abfce483:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Footage of the University of Oklahoma’s SAE EssayThis case appears almost every day on news and in the newspapers. We can see that these cases are increasing from time to time. According to the statistics of baby dumping cases in Malaysia issued by the Headquarters of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Bukit Aman, in 2000, a total of 65 cases of baby dumping have been reported and the total number increase to 86 cases reported in 2006 throughout the country. This serious case becomes more popular among teenagers in Malaysia is probably because of these few factors, which are unwanted pregnancies, men irresponsibility, sickness, poverty, scolding by parents, and broke n marriages. Unwanted pregnancies have been one of the major causes of baby dumping, as most of these young ladies are not prepared to take care of the baby plus the changes that take place with the body and lack of life skills. In the eight studies reported by Gerald R. Adams and Thomas Gullota: Most of the time a teenage pregnancy is an accident. Many teenagers are simply ignorant about sexual matters and believe such myths as â€Å"you can’t get pregnant the first time† or â€Å"you won’t get pregnant if you only have sex in a while†. Teenagers are also influenced by parents and religious leaders who tell them to abstain not only from having sex but from using birth control as well. While birth control requires planning and forethought, it is easy to be swept into an unplanned sexual encounter in the heat of passion. Moreover, some teenage girls feel that planning a sexual encounter is immoral, finally teenagers often do not know how to get birth control devices or are afraid that their parents will get angry if they do. Men irresponsibility also contributes to the women’s decision to dump the baby. Men often refuse to take the responsibility when they were claimed to be the father of the baby. There are cases where the man himself had asked for the baby to be aborted or dumped. Apart from that, some women dumped their baby out of sickness, such as mental problems, confusion, and epilepsy acquired during pregnancy. Psychologists tend to picture baby dumper as people who are mentally ill or at least have severe emotional problems. The typical baby dumper is described as impulsive, immature and depressed, with little control over his or her emotions. Having economic hardship also leading to baby dumping. Teenagers who are still studying for instance cannot afford to raise a baby on their own and for those who comes from a poor family, even their parents cannot help the situation. Afraid of being scolded by their parents because of pregnant before married is also the reason why they dumped the baby. David G. Gil’s found that: The usual indicator of social class-income, occupation prestige and education are all negatively related to baby dumping. In other words, the lower the parents’s social and economic status, the more they tended to dump their baby. Last but not least is because of broken marriages. Believe it or not, even the one who had married also dumped their baby. This is happen especially when the couple had a problem to get along well with each other. Always argue and hard to tolerate to each other finally resulted in baby dumping. In one of the most comprehensive studies of family violence to date, Murray A. Straus, Richard J. Gelles and Suzanne K. Steinmets found that: About a quarter of the husband and wives they interviewed admitted that there had been violence between them at some time in their marriage.

leonardo essays

leonardo essays Geniuses come few and far between in history. Hippocrates came in the late BC period. Einstein came in the late 1800s-early 1900s. Leonardo came in between the two of them, but is not recognized as well as they are. He was a brilliant human being. He was a master in the fields of painting, designing, engineering, and science. Most people know him merely as an artist, and some know him as an inventor, but not too many people know him for what he really was. This is because his life and his accomplishments are not taught, as in depth as they should be. During the height of the renascence, a genius was born in 1452 in the small town of Vinci, near Florence. He would become a great artist, engineer, inventor, and a scientist. His name was Leonardo, a name that would soon be associated with the word brilliant. He was born to Piero, the lawyer of the town, and Catarina, who gave Leonardo to his father, and left them both for a man of her social class. She is not mentioned in Leonardo's notebooks, as he was probably too young to remember her. Leonardo grew up feeling different from the other children. He had a strange curiosity that was lacking in the other children. He would buy birds from the markets, and set them free, because he thought it was wrong to keep them locked up in cages. He also had a strange curiosity about the world around him. He kept collections of "snakeskins, odd stones polished by water, birds' eggs, the skeletons of small animals, insects stuck on pins, tadpoles, and strange plants," in his room because they fascinated him. Leonardo would draw the things in his collection in a notebook. When his father saw the notebook, he thought that there was a possibility that Leonardo had a chance to become an artist. Piero went into Florence once a month on business and one time he brought some of his sons work. He showed it to his friend Andrea del Verrocchio. He saw more than just mere t...

Critical Analysis of a Project Business Case Essay

Critical Analysis of a Project Business Case - Essay Example A business case is used to present the strategies and evaluate the alternatives associated with the project plan. To critically analyze the business case regarding the proposal of Affordable Housing for Essential Workers in Port Hedland town in Western Australia, the business case can be looked into with an aim of reflecting on the goals and objectives of the business case as proposed, the valid opportunities and scopes that the case effectively addresses, evaluate the costs and benefits as proposed in the business case and identify the various economic, legal and non- economic benefits as well as the strategies and risks involved in the business case report. Also the business case should be analyzed critically to understand the level of alignment that it has with the vision and objectives of the organization undertaking the project. The rationale for developing the business plan and the risk factors and benefits of implementing the alternatives should also be critically evaluated. B ackground Port Hedland is located in Western Australia on the coastal region of Pilbara region. Due to the presence of a natural harbour, the area has developed as a service centre hub for many industries like gold mining and pearling. In 1960, large iron ore deposits were discovered in Pilbara which drove major changes in the townscape with developments in the construction of railway lines, harbours, accommodation and other facilities for the increase number of mining workers and their families moving into the town. Since then, Port Hedland saw major investments towards resource projects which established Port Hedland as a prominent administration and service hub. In the current scenario, Port Hedland has a huge service population constituting of more than 20,000 full time workers and around 3000 hour based workers. This is referred to in Appendix 1. The accommodation of the rapidly expanding work population has become a major challenge for the town (Government of Western Australia , 2012). The Western Australian Government has become much focused towards improving the living standards and qualities in port Hedland and turning the city into a modern and diverse city with several facilities, infrastructure and services being provided for the population in Port Hedland. The Analysis The greatest challenges for the government of Port Hedland are to develop sufficient infrastructure, land and housing to match the accelerated and unpredictable growth in the population and service workers number (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2008). The business plan for Affordable Housing for Essential Workers in Port Hedland town can be analyzed to be in alignment with the current developments in the town area. The region is experiencing huge demand from the resource boom and has to particularly focus on the land and infrastructure projects to match up with the current and the future growth trends in the town. There are extensive plans made for Port Hedland city growth plan to offset the complex development, infrastructure and planning constraints. The business case under study is streamlined with the requirement of more developed infrastructure, housing facilities and other amenities to make the economy more diversified. The economic outlook in the town of Port Hedland looks perfect for new business investments particularly in the housing
